CrossFit, Trick or Treat?


Burpees and wallballs and running O MY! A time for haunted houses, scary movies, candy and cavities. Halloween is a thrilling holiday for all. This is the one time a year where we get to be whomever or whatever we want to be. A witch, a farmer, a princess, the world’s largest ball of yarn! The choices are unlimited.


Despite whom or what we decide to be, the phrase to be shouted is “trick or treat.” When you shout it on your neighbors porch, you will receive a nice TREAT of candy… or a toothbrush (I lived next to my dentist :( ). When you shout it at your box as you arrive for the WOD, you may have a different experience. Will you get a Trick or a Treat? Let’s find out…



7 TRICKS and TREATS of CrossFit:


1. The overwhelming nerves and jitters you have before you go to the box that day and see what’s written on that frightening white board…. TRICK (The board is like a scary movie, it’s got four corners and cannot touch you back. You are BIGGER then the board!)

2. The list on the board made of small words and simple numbers… TRICK (Seems simple?... TRICK!!!!)

3. The strength portion of the WOD where you have the opportunity hit a PR on a lift…TREAT (Yes! You just hit the house with the FULL SIZE CANDY BARS!)

4. Those pesky thoughts racing through your head that you won’t finish and just can't do it TRICK (Those are ghosts and goblins trying to draw you to the dark side. Stay on the bright side… its easier to see :) )

5. Yelling, "TIME" when you DO finish… TREAT (whoop whoop!)

6. The fact that after the WOD you are an “instant zombie” and don’t even have to dress up for the rest of your Halloween fun… TREAT (That’s what you call practicality)

7. The end of the night when you’ve traveled up and down the whole neighborhood carrying pounds of candy and a tired kid or two knowing they just had the night of their life ... TOTAL TREAT!



Looks like we have 3 TRICKS and 4 TREATS. So you see, in the end CrossFit is a TREAT. At times it may seem like a diamond in the rough, but despite all of the spooks and screams, the rewards of the sport are much greater. Think of each WOD like making it through a haunted house without dieing; that’s always fulfilling ;)
