Thankful for the Four F's

I wanted to take a moment while it is thanksgiving and reflect on some of the things I'm thankful for. It's kind of corny buy I categorized them into the Four F's. Fitness, Fun, Friends, and Family (but not necessarily in that order)

I'm thankful that I have the ability to be FIT, stay fit and work toward being fit. All too often I get caught in the fact that I struggle with handstand push-ups or that I get too winded after two rounds of a ten round WOD and I let that get me down. But honestly I should be thankful for my health. Not many people know this but my grandma was the one that bought me my first barbell. Growing up she always told me to go outside and play and stop watching TV. She was teaching me to be thankful for my health and the ability to run and jump. My grandma wanted me to be thankful for this because she could not. She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis when she was 26 years old and was paralyzed from the shoulders down for my entire life. Now every time I pick up the barbell I'm reminded to be thankful that I can.

I'm thankful that I can have FUN doing what I'm doing. I am lucky enough to really enjoy what I do on a daily basis. Now this doesn't not mean that I don't have bad days, but the good days outweigh the bad. I have to remember though that life is too short to not enjoy it! Personally, going through my motorcycle accident, followed shortly there after by the death of my friend Ben, and then shortly after that the death of Grandpa Schweiger, you learn that life should be cherished and enjoyed. And it is best enjoyed with the third and fourth F's.

I'm thankful for FAMILY and FRIENDS. I combined these two F's because good friends can become like a second family. First, I'm thankful for my family. Holding my new daughter, Olivia, while typing with one hand reminds me that I am so thankful that God has blessed Lisa and I with a beautiful addition to our family. I am also thankful for everyone that has become part of the family of CrossFit Macomb. Working out and enjoying life with good friends at the gym has really helped to tie together all the things that I am thankful for. I can stay fit, have fun, all while making friendships that last outside of the four walls of the gym.

I hope you can spend sometime today (and everyday) to reflect on the things that you are thankful for.

Happy Thanksgiving!
