2013 January Newsletter

Sorry for the early newsletter I was just excited to get this one out to everyone.
I know its not January yet and most of you are still muddling through Christmas parties and holiday gatherings. (Muddling probably not the right verb but I used it anyway).

The 12 Days of CrossFit
If you are anything like me your life seems to revolve around CrossFit. And when you talk to people you talk to them about CrossFit. I was thinking the other morning, what is it about CrossFit that makes us such fanatics. So much so that the people you will be visiting with will ask why you love it so much. In the Christmas spirit I came up with the 12 Days of CrossFit! It goes a little something like this... (you can sing-a-long)

On the twelfth day of CrossFit my trainer gave to me...
Twelve ..new sore muscle
Eleven ...sweaty shirts
Ten ......pants that don't fit
Nine .....shin bruises
Eight ....snatch jokes
Seven ..stronger lifts
Six ......sore abs
Five .....whips from double-unders
Four .....pukie stickers
Three ...tube socks
Two .....calloused hands
and a love for all things CrossFit

CrossFit Macomb's Adopted Christmas Family
Thank you to everyone that helped out and bought presents for the family we adopted for Christmas this year. We adopted a family of six where two of the kids had special needs. We were able to bless them with 50 gifts this year that filled two giants tables. It was so cool to have you all give back and remember that giving is so much more important then getting this season. Thank you so much!

Merry Christmas

January Macombie
This month the Macombie Award of "Lost Count" goes to Trent. The best part of when Trent loses count is that he just keeps going. Most people when they lose count make up a number or go back to the last number they do remember. Not Trent. He doesn't believe that is fair. So he just keeps going. As the WOD progresses, I'll ask him, "Trent, what number are you on?" He just smirks and shakes his head, "I lost count." And instead of stopping he just keeps going until the last person is done. I love it when this happens. Not because Trent lost count, but because he is thinking of the person who is working just as hard but may be behind him in reps and he keeps going with them. "I'll just be done when they finish," Trent would say. As funny as it is when Trent loses count, I appreciate the attitude he holds when he does. It is the spirit of CrossFit, we are in this together.

Box to Box Throwdowns
Starting in 2013 will be hosting CrossFit Macomb Box to Box Throwdowns. Basically it will go like this. We will call up another CrossFit box and tell them to come to CrossFit Macomb and that they will be competing against us in 3 WODs. It will be a great opportunity to hone our competitive skills and improve our overall athleticism by broadening our perspective. The first one will be in January. More details will come out then.

Christmas Party - "Winter White Out"
We realize that everyone is busy this time of year. But we thought it would be fun to still have a CrossFit Macomb Christmas party. We are calling it a "Winter White Out". On Thursday, January 17th we are asking that everyone wear white and bring a white elephant gift. After the 6:30pm class we will exchange gifts and have some food.
The gift must fall under one of the two categories (A) it is a re-gift of something you got this year that you don't want, or (B) it is something laying around your house that you don't want anymore. Hence the white elephant gift. (Do not spend money on this gift) Also bring a dish to pass so we can eat while we exchange gifts and have a fun time.

Winter Weather Policy
As we move into the winter months just a reminder that we follow New Haven School district's school closings to determine if we will be open or closed based on the road conditions. We will also post this on Facebook so make sure you friend CrossFit Macomb on Facebook
