September Newsletter

Thank you Thank you Thank you

There is not a doubt in my mind that CrossFit Macomb is the greatest CrossFit gym in the world. Well, to be honest the gym itself is not that special, BUT the people that call CrossFit Macomb their gym; they are the greatest people in the world! Lisa and I have to thank you for all the encouragement, food, prayers, and support while I recovered from my motorcycle accident. As news spread that I was missing skin on 50% of my hands, arms, and stomach, you all jumped into place. Debbie and Shannon filled in as head trainers. Kevin and Sandy helped out as spotters. And so many people that gave food and cards that I would do a disservice by trying to name you all. So thank you.

Thanks for the card and well wishes

Community
Community is what separates CrossFit from any globo gym. Ever been to normal gym? You might have a lifting partner, or you may see a few familiar faces, but nothing compares to a gym full of people with the same mindset toward fitness, doing the same workout, and then pushing you to perform you best. Even if you are a solo CrossFitter at home or at work, it is not the same. I've done the garage gym for two years. Did I see results? Yes. Did I push myself hard? Yes. But when you have a community of people doing the WOD with you the results and motivation improve exponentially! Nothing compares to it.

And we have a great summer with our community of people. Several BBQ nights at the gym. A beach WOD. The 10 Skills Challenge. And countless Thursdays at B-Dubs. I'm certain that we will have many more fun activities going forward.

September Macombie
This month we are recognizing CrossFit Macomb's benchmark athlete, and giving the "Beat Joel" Macombie to Joel. It seems that Joel has become the standard to beat when trying to determine how long the WOD will take. It has become comical how many times I've heard, "What did Joel get this morning,... I just have to 'Beat Joel'!" And I've heard from both guys and girls! It is all in good fun and Joel has been taking it upon himself to making his times harder and harder to beat. He has also begun to document and reminisce on these undertakings in the blog Average Joe CrossFit (www.averagejoecrossfit.com) Which is a blog for the CrossFit majority. Very few people are in the elite CrossFit status, but the majority CrossFitters out there need a benchmark athlete like Joel to push themselves to be better, to do better, and to say, "I beat Joel!" Great job Joel and continue to motivate people to work hard.

On Ramp
We are going to be reformatting our On Ramp. The next On Ramp is scheduled for the last two weeks of September. The classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday at 5:00pm, and Saturday at 9:30am. The classes will be 30 minutes. There is a lot of information and will start promptly. So get there on time. You can come to the 4:00pm or 5:30pm class on Tuesday and Thursday and go to the On Ramp in between. Also you can then stay for the Saturday class at 10:00am.

The On Ramp is formatted for new CrossFitters but it is also good for avid CrossFitters who need a refresher on, what is fitness, what is nutrition, and what is CrossFit. So whether you are new to CrossFit or you've been to one a long time ago, come and check out the On Ramp.
