The crisp air of fall and the changing colors of the leaves can’t help but steer your thoughts to cozy sweaters and pumpkin pie. From Halloween to New Year ’s Day, we all remember this time of year comes with sweet treats and full bellies. However, there is no reason why you can’t enjoy the pleasures of the season without derailing your hard work and well… your digestive system.
Pumpkin is a fall favorite that will have a presence at tons
of family gatherings, and front porches these next few months. However, the benefits
of pumpkin extend farther than your palette and fall traditions. Pumpkin has a
high amount of Vitamin C which may help prevent colds and strengthen your
immune system.* With the changes in whether and drop in temperature, those pesky
sniffles will hit the noses of millions of people. Whether it’s you, your
children, or the person who last touched the door your about to open, any extra
defense your body has will help keep you healthy and going strong. Another benefit
of pumpkin that may surprise you is the potassium content. One cup of pumpkin
actually has 142 more milligrams of
potassium at 564 milligrams than a banana.* Potassium helps replenish the
nutrients and minerals that can be lost through the intense muscle work and dripping
sweat you go through during a WOD. It is important to maintain your potassium
levels to keep a healthy heart and avoid muscle cramping, fatigue, and heart issues.

So how can you incorporate pumpkin into your paleo palette? You
may have to skip that pumpkin spice fried doughnut with the cream cheese filling,
but no worries. Try adding some pumpkin puree into your smoothies or cutting up
the left over pumpkin that your overly ambitious 10 year old was going to carve
until their arm got tired. Drizzle some olive oil and sprinkle some sea salt
and cinnamon on the pieces and roast them in the oven for 20-25 min at 400
degrees. Voila! A delicious side dish or snack.
Embrace the fall traditions, smells, and beautiful scenery.
Keep it clean so you can stay lean and energized. Here are a few more fall pumpkin
recipes to satisfy your cravings and give your body that extra boost of
