2013 May Newsletter

I love the slogan on our new apparel. Lift More, Do More, Be More!

Be More

I completely get the Lift More and Do More parts because because as a fitness facility that is the first reason people start coming. They are trying to get stronger, trying to lose weight, trying to have more energy. All of which are great things and help us to enjoy life more. But honestly it is the Be More part that intrigues me. What does that mean to Be More. Be-ing is a state of personality and a sense of existence. The first two parts of the slogan are consuming. They take only to serve one's self. But the Be More is a giving back of one's self to others. I don't just want you to consume and leave. I want you to find what it is you have to offer and do something with it. Not just for my sake but for your family, your friends, your neighbors. And no I'm not taking about your new found biceps either. We have a lot of talented and gifted people that come and go from CrossFit Macomb. The thing I love about CrossFit is that is allows people to see a side of them that may have been dormant. You don't know how your presence in our community of CrossFit Macomb has changed someone else. Maybe you are a great encourager and help people get through the last couple of grueling minutes of a grueling workout. Maybe you are a motivator and help people see that they can do something they thought was impossible. Maybe your commitment has helped someone see what it looks like to be disciplined and dedicated and produce success. Maybe you are an example and the target of someone that every one is trying to work toward. Maybe you have introduced someone else to CrossFit and gotten them started on the path of health and fitness. And list can go on. The point is don't just consume. You are doing more then just going to a gym. You are part of a community that needs you apart of it just as much as you want to be apart of it. Give back, encourage, motivate, lead, express yourself. Be More.

Open Gym Times
We are adding an Open Gym time slot. We will be testing the waters this summer with an open gym element. The Open Gym concept is simple... the gym will be open. The Open Gym time will continue to count as a visit toward your monthly membership or punchcard. During these times there will be no class but the facility will be open for any of the following:
  • Strength training,
  • making up missed WODs,
  • skill work, or
  • the "no other time works in my schedule and I can make it to the gym then".
A lot of people have been saying that we need to add an Olympic Lifting class. We will be using this time to experiment with this. So, if you are interested just start showing up. There will be a structure to this Strength Training/Olympic Lifting and be offered for the novice to the elite athlete. If you wanted to use this time for making up missed WODs or to work on a skill then during this time we will have the clock running and the music at a medium level. Take advantage of this time to really start to hone in on those weak points and get some extra work in. Here are the times for the Open Gym:
Tuesday 7:30pm
Thursday 7:30pm

Box to Box Throwdown
We have scheduled the next Box to Box Throwdown for June 15th. It is against CrossFit Reviver this time around. So clear your calendar for that Saturday. We have a winning streak to defend! Last time we had 7 heats so you will want to get in early. You can sign up here > REGISTER

For more details click here

The Box to Box Throwdown is a blast. If you did it last time. Do it again! If you didn't then don't miss out this time.

Supplies for Soldiers
Remember to bring in more supplies for us to send over. The bin is starting to get full.
We will be sending a box out this week.

New Apparel
I am very excited about our new designs for shirts and shorts/pants. I will be putting in a generic order next week, so if you want to pre-order and pick some specific colors, styles, or sizes, then please get them in this coming week. The shirts will have the slogan "LIFT MORE, DO MORE, BE MORE, CFM" on the left shoulder blade, and the pants/shorts will have the slogan on the right thigh.

May Macombie

This month, the Macombie Award for "The Goal Setter" goes to Justin L. Justin has been CrossFitting for just under a year. He came to CrossFit Macomb looking to help him get into American Ninja Warrior. From then to now Justin has been setting mini-goals. His first goal at CrossFit Macomb, breaking 90 degrees while squatting. His latest accomplished goal was the 30 day rope climb challenge. (P.S. he climbed a total of 7,280-ft over 30 days. That's like climbing the Eifel Tower 7 times over). Justin had this to say about CrossFit and CrossFit Macomb.
"At first, it was to make myself better, faster, stronger, etc. After a few months at CFM, I've built friendships with a majority of the CrossFitters there and that became the reason driving me to come back every day. Yes, I've become stronger and have more endurance than I did before CrossFit but the overall experience of the WODs and people I workout with has been the most rewarding. We all motivate each other and push each other to reach our limits and set new limits. I can't see myself going back to a gym anytime soon because CrossFit has become a part of my daily routine. When I first started at the end of September, I was only lifting 75 lbs for majority of the workouts. I've worked my way up to a 215 lb back squat, 305 lb deadlift, 155 lb front squat, and I even achieved my first muscle-up in December. CrossFit gives me the results I haven't been seeing when I went to the gym and it motivates me to set higher goals for myself. ... I've got a lot of work ahead of me. But I know my fellow CrossFitters at CFM will support me and push me more every day until I reach my goal. "
Last month was the final call to complete the first stage of the American Ninja Warrior. Unfortunately, Justin did not complete the course but with true mettle he said, "...This year wasn't meant to be. I want to thank everyone who has supported me this past year! I'm not going to let this deter me. Instead, I'm going to push myself even harder than before and you can be sure that I will defeat the course next year. It's all uphill from here!" Great job Justin. Continue to work hard, set goals, and accomplish them.
