April Newsletter

It's Spring!

Its that time of year. Spring is the time for growth, renewing, and a sense of freshness. We are moving into Spring with a bang. We have big plans for this summer. Keep reading to find out what's ahead!

First Annual CFM 10 Skills ChallengeCrossFit Macomb is holding its first annual CrossFit Macomb 10 Skills Challenge on Saturday, May 19th. This competition will bring the local CrossFit community together for a day long competition that will test each individual on their competency in the 10 physicals skills (endurance, strength, flexibility, stamina, power, speed, balance, coordination, accuracy, and agility).
This is a team challenge. The teams will consist of 2 males and 2 females. Teams can include athletes from different CF boxes. This event is geared toward expanding everyone's ability in performing the 10 physical skills. So all skill levels are welcomed and scaling will be available.

You can get involved in two ways. (1) Get a team together and test your skills. (2) We are going to need quite a few judges and other volunteers to help make this competition happen. If you are interested in volunteering, we will have a sign up sheet in the office.

There will be 4 WOD's for every team with a 5th winner's circle WOD to determine the team that has mastered all 10 Skills. The first three WODs will be announced the week of the Challenge. We will post video demonstration of the standards for movements and expectations of the WODs. We will be offereing individual prizes to the top three teams. Only Rx'd teams are eligible for the prizes. Register by May 9th.

(Only the team captains need to register)

New SpottersI'd like to announce that we have several people that we have asked to occasionally help out during the classes. These people are called "Spotters". They are there to help set up and help keep track of scores. Ultimately, Rhyan, Shannon, and Debbie are the lead trainers and run the classes. The Spotters are helping to keep the classes running smoothly.
The Spotters are: Lisa A, and Ben S (who have been Spotters all along) and have added Alex B, Kevin C, Rob J, and Sandy L.

The CrossFit Games Open WODsWe had six athletes enter the CrossFit Games Open WODs.
Rhyan placed 518th in the region
Stephanie placed 709th in the region
Kevin placed 893rd in the region
Justin placed 1237th in the region

Congratulations to everyone that competed and to everyone that participated in the Open WODs. The Central East regionals will be May 11th through the 13th. In May we will see if we can get a group of people to head down there after the Saturday WOD.

The April MacombiesThis month we are honoring the self proclaimed "Modifier". Rob B started in October of 2011. Since starting CrossFit, Rob has lost 10 pounds and his latest CrossFit Total was 1,005 pounds (405, 175, 425). Rob excels in the Olympic lifts and has one the best looking Snatches. He is no stranger with Pukie and is best know for the modification shown below in this award.

Keep up the great work Rob!

Schedule ChangeStarting in April we are cancelling the 7:30pm class on Friday night. We are going to be replacing that with a BBQ night once a month, through the summer. The first one will be Friday April 13th. We are going to be firing up the grill and potentially watching a movie. Bring some meat to grill and a drink. This will be family friendly time. Come on in for the 6:30pm WOD then stick around and enjoy some time with the CrossFit Macomb Community.
If you are interested in this please try to sign up so we can get a count of people there. Follow the link below:
